Following the news that Jurassic World: Dominion was being delayed until the summer of 2022, it has been revealed that production on the latest installment of the Jurassic World franchise has been halted for two weeks due to some positive COVID-19 tests turning up on set.
The news was revealed by director Colin Trevorrow on his official Twitter page. Although the parties in question have since tested positive, the production is being cautious by shutting down for two weeks. You can see Trevorrow’s tweet below:
Woke up to the news we had a few positive Coronavirus tests on Jurassic World: Dominion. All tested negative shortly after, but due to our safety protocols we’re going to pause for two weeks. Back soon. pic.twitter.com/DxuqX9UdgX

Trevorrow is right that production does have time to take a bit of a pause. The release date was shifted from the summer of 2021 to the summer of 2022 but this wasn’t entirely done due to the global pandemic. Although the pandemic did suspend filming when Hollywood went dark, it is being reported that the shoot has about three weeks left worth of filming so the tentpole is almost done shooting. Universal Pictures is more concerned about the business and financial end because there are a lot of tie-ins in place to coincide with the release of the film and they pushed the movie back to make sure nothing stood in the way of those tie-ins taking place. This will also give the film a longer post-production which will likely benefit the movie in the long run. A Universal spokesman had this to say about the two-week hiatus:
“Late last night, we were informed that the Jurassic World: Dominion production experienced a small amount of positive tests for COVID-19. Even though subsequent tests proved negative this morning, due to our rigid protocols and to ensure that the safety and well-being of our entire cast and crew is paramount at all times, those who initially tested positive are currently self-isolating, as are those who they have come into contact with. As a result filming has been temporarily paused and will resume in accordance with established safety guidelines.”
