Patty Jenkins Was Not Fond Of Wonder Woman 1984’s HBO Max Day & Date Release

Among all the films that shifted their release dates to 2021, Wonder Woman 1984 was one of the few to release last year and also became the first film to be released on HBO Max under their day and date release format they used for all of their 2021 line up. Now, we come to find out that the director Patty Jenkins was not a fan of the rollout. During a luncheon at CinemaCon,  Jenkins spoke about how the decision to release Wonder Woman 1984 on streaming left her heartbroken.

“It was the best choice in a bunch of bad choices at the moment…[it was a] heartbreaking experience. It was detrimental to the movie…I don’t think it plays the same on streaming, ever. I’m not a fan of day-and-date and I hope to avoid it forever.”

The film grossed $16.7 million in its opening weekend which was the largest opening for any film during the pandemic at that time and totaled $166 million worldwide.
