Mission: Impossible 7 & A Quiet Place Part II are among the Paramount Pictures titles that will debut on the Paramount+ streaming service 45 days after their planned theatrical release.
The arrangement has adjusted its pay-TV output deal with Epix in order to build up movie offerings on the recently rebranded network. Along with new releases, Paramount+ will offer a library of more than 2,500 films. The announcement was made during ViacomCBS’ investor day where a TON of news about the streamer was dropped. Once called CBS All Access, the rebrand launches on March 4 & will now compete with the likes of Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Hulu, & Apple TV+.
To clarify, the 45-day window will be for Paramount’s big titles like Top Gun: Maverick or the aforementioned Mission: Impossible 7 & A Quiet Place Part II. Smaller titles will hit the streamer 30 days after their theatrical release. Prior to the pandemic, 90 days was the normal window but the closure of cinemas due to COVID-19 has forced studios to change strategies. Paramount’s 45-day window has been received favorably by exhibitors as opposed to the Warner Bros. same-day theatrical & HBO Max streaming plan or even Universal’s deal which allows their films to hit PVOD platforms 17 days after their theatrical release.
