FX Networks CEO John Landgraf revealed info about the future of Ryan Murphy’s signatures series’ now that he has moved on to a deal with Netflix. While American Horror Story is certainty through season 10, new seasons of Feud and American Crime Story appear to be in limbo.
During FX Networks TCA presentation, Landgraf revealed that creator Ryan Murphy does not have an idea for season two of Feud at this present time. The second season of Feud was to be about Prince Charles & Diana but the scripts never came together. They had even cast the main roles with Matthew Goode & Rosamund Pike but the material just wasn’t there. It was implied during the TCA presentation that a lot of the issue with Feud is that Murphy is very busy developing material for his Netflix deal.
Meanwhile, the cable network has “three or four” ideas for another cycle of American Crime Story but as to when another season will come to our screens, is another story. Season 2 originally revolved around Hurricane Katrina but that stalled due to them changing the source material. It’s being reported that Scott Rudin, who owns the rights to the Five Days at Memorial book, on which the most recent version of the Katrina ACS installment was based, may shop the project elsewhere. There was also a season 3 that was greenlit early but it looks like that story won’t be going forward either. Season 3 was to revolve around the Monica Lewinsky scandal but was scrapped out of respect to her. Murphy felt like she should be able to tell her story on her own terms and not have it be done by anyone else.
American Horror Story is moving full steam ahead but Landgraf was mum about plot details for season 9 and beyond. As for how long the anthology horror series will last? That’s all up to Ryan Murphy. Landgraf says “It’s up to how long he wants to keep going and how many years he has inspired ideas.”
