CBS’ longest-running and most-watched current drama series will be returning for another season. The network has announced that NCIS has been renewed for season 17 and will return in 2019-20.
The pickup relied heavily on its star and executive producer Mark Harmon signing a new deal and it looks like he re-upped without much of an issue which made the green light for a new season a done deal. The series joins dramas Criminal Minds (which is entering its final season), FBI, God Friended Me and Magnum P.I. and comedies Mom, The Neighborhood and Young Sheldon in securing a spot on CBS’ 2019-20 schedule.
This season NCIS is averaging about 16 million viewers per episode (including a week of delayed viewing), second only to The Big Bang Theory among all non-sports programs on the broadcast networks. The 2.0 rating it averages in the coveted 18-49 demo ranks in the top 10 for broadcast dramas. The series is also among CBS’ top performers on digital platforms, and the CBS TV Studios production remains a powerhouse in off-network syndication and internationally where it’s licensed in more than 200 countries and territories.
