Nate Parker’s ‘The Birth Of A Nation” On Track for a Solid Debut

What was once a guaranteed Oscar player has turned into one of the most controversial films of the year. Despite the controversy surrounding director and star Nate Parker over his involvement in a 1999 rape case, it has not scared off movie theater owners from showing the film in their location.

The Birth of a Nation will open in roughly 2,100 theaters this weekend at the North American box office. Estimates show the slave rebellion drama will open in the $7 million-$8 million range, although some trackers have it approaching $10 million. Reel Talk will have the review of the controversial film Monday morning. Until then, what is everyone’s thoughts on the expected earnings of the film?
