HBO has found its lead for its Game Of Thrones prequel series. Naomi Watts has been set to star in the pilot created by Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin.
The untitled drama, which was picked up to pilot in June, is set thousands of years before the events of the HBO series. The drama follows the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. Watts will play a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret. The name of the character has yet to be revealed.
The pilot is based on a story from Goldman and Martin, with Goldman also serving as showrunner. The prequel is the first of several potential series set in the world of Westeros to move forward at HBO beyond the script phase.
