Deputy Canceled After One Season At Fox

It’s one and done for Deputy on Fox. The network has decided to cancel the freshman police drama starring Stephen Dorff.

The series launched mid-season and ranked as Fox’s second lowest rated drama series this season, ahead of Almost Family, which was also canceled some weeks ago by the network. Usually networks wait until May for renewal or cancellation decisions but we’re dealing with a very different time this year. No pilots are being shot right now due to the coronavirus pandemic and while networks typically wait to see how their new pilots are shaping up before canceling already aired shows, there’s no need to do that right now. The network can simply cut their losses early if a show isn’t working. Of the remaining freshman Fox dramas, 911: Lone Star & Prodigal Son are looking food for second seasons.

Deputy had Dorff starring as a fifth-generation lawman, more comfortable taking down bad guys than navigating a sea of politics, who unexpectedly becomes acting Sheriff. The series also starred Yara Martinez, Brian Van Holt, Siena Goines, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Shane Paul McGhie and Mark Moses.
