Mulan Teaser Trailer Hits 175.1 Million Views In 24 Hours

Talk about let’s get down to business! The Mulan teaser trailer premiered on Sunday and it wracked up a lot of views in the first 24 hours of release.

In its first 24 hours, the first-look logged 175.1M online views, topping all Disney Live Action films except The Lion King which hit a record 224 million views in its first 24 hours back in November.

The global views may indicate where this film will shine overseas when it’s released. The teaser saw 52 million of the 175 million views coming from China. The teaser was reportedly reshared in China at almost the same frequency as the trailers for Endgame and Infinity War.

The 24-hour numbers on Mulan make it the No. 7 trailer launch of all time, in the company of such films as Avengers: EndgameAvengers: Infinity WarLion King, IT and The Fate Of The Furious.

Mulan is the live-action remake of the 1998 animated story about a young woman who risks everything out of love for her family and her country to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known. When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Mulan masquerades as a man to take his place and is tested to the height of her abilities to prove herself as a warrior.

The original animated film grossed $304 million worldwide but only saw a small release in China back in 1999 and faced its share of criticism in that area at the time. The current reaction to the teaser in China is very positive and star Liu Yifei is being referred to in publications and social media posts as “China’s first Disney princess.”

Mulan, directed by Niki Caro and co-starring  Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li, hits screens on March 27, 2020.
