Uncharted Film Adaptation Scrubbed by Sony

Looks like we won’t be seeing the film adaption of Uncharted anytime soon. Sony Pictures has removed the film from its studio release calendar. The film based on the action-adventure game of the same name was scheduled to debut June 30, 2017.

Uncharted would follow a similar story to the first video game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, in a series of four. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake, a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake and a treasure hunter on his quest to find El Dorado, the famed South American golden city.

The film is being written by Joe Carnahan (Narc, The Grey). Previous drafts were written by Academy Award-winning writer Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), Oscar nominee David O. Russell, Doctor Strange‘s Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, Safe House‘s David Guggenheim, and Cormac and Marianne Wibberley of National Treasure fame.
