Moonlight Becomes First LGBTQ Film To Win Best Picture

After the Oscar snafu was cleared up last night, Moonlight was able to make history in the process by becoming the first LGBTQ film to win Best Picture.

GLAAD made the following statement about the win:

“Congratulations to Moonlight on its well-deserved win for Best Picture. Film is our largest cultural export and must represent the full diversity of the people who make up this country. This sends a strong message to the film industry that it needs to embrace inclusive stories if it wants to remain competitive and relevant”

Moonlight follows a young man through three different points in his life (played by three different actors), as he struggles to find his place in the world and understand his own sexuality.

At the age of five, I knew I wanted to write movies and about them. I've set out to make those dreams come true. As an alumni of the Los Angeles Film Academy, I participated in their Screenwriting program, while building up my expertise in film criticism. I write reviews that relate to the average moviegoer by educating my readers and keeping it fun.
