There will be a new eye behind the camera on the latest entry of The Conjuring. Michael Chaves, director of The Curse of La Llorona, has been set to helm the third film in the popular franchise.
James Wan previously directed the first and second film but will step down this go round. Wan will continue to produce The Conjuring 3 under his Atomic Monster label alongside Peter Safran via his Safran Company. The Conjuring 2 writer David Leslie Johnson returns to write the threequel, which centers on 1970s paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Chaves was discovered after directing the award-winning horror short The Maiden. The Curse of La Llorona was his feature directorial debut and The Conjuring 3 reunites him with New Line and Atomic Monster, who also produced his feature debut.
Wan’s Conjuring movies launched a genre franchise that has grossed a staggering $1.57 billion for Warner Bros.’ New Line, with the recent spinoff The Nun becoming the highest-grossing film in the universe with over $330 million worldwide.
