Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. To Premiere Sixth Season In Summer Of 2019

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pulled a down to wire season 6 renewal and now we know exactly when it will air. During ABC’s Upfront Presentation, Channing Dungey, ABC President of Entertainment, announced that the Marvel series will premiere its 13-episode sixth season in the summer of 2019.

Dungey also wanted to make it clear that they don’t view season 6 as a series ender for the show:

“I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet. We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing. By putting it on the summer we feel we can super-serve the show’s audience and possibly have it on the air longer.”

This actually may be a very smart move, especially since ratings standards during the summer are much lower. I’m guessing the budget may have to be trimmed a bit but fans of the show should look at this as a win and not a loss.
