La La Land Named This Year’s Top-Grossing Oscar Movie

Forbes has announced that La La Land is this year’s highest grossing Oscar film. The modern musical directed by Damian Chazelle and starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling has earned $340.5 million at the worldwide box office. Arrival is in second place with $195.3 million. Hacksaw Ridge is in third place with $174.8 million and Hidden Figures hits the fourth-place mark at $164.5 million.

Overall, the nine Best Picture nominees have grossed $1.1 billion worldwide combined, with four of them breaking the $100 million mark. Additionally, “every single movie earned back its budget at the box office, proving that critical favorites can sometimes also be cash cows.”
