The judges’ table will remain intact! It has been announced that Katy Perry, Lionel Richie & Luke Bryan have all closed deals to return to judge the third season of American Idol on ABC.
“American Idol is the original music competition series,” said Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment. “It was the first of its kind to take everyday singers and catapult them into superstardom, launching the careers of so many amazing artists. We couldn’t be more excited for Katy, Luke, Lionel, and Bobby to continue in their roles as American Idol searches for the next great music star, with more live episodes and exciting, new creative elements coming this season.”
American Idol was renewed for a third season back in May but the judges were still in talks about returning for the third cycle. ABC was hopeful they would return but nothing was set in stone. Today’s announcement probably takes some pressure off ABC but there is one person not officially signed to the dotted line just yet. Host Ryan Seacrest, who has hosted Idol since it began on Fox, is still in talks with ABC about returning. Burke is said to be hopeful that a deal will be made soon.
American Idol will premiere its third season on ABC in 2020.
