The second Jurassic World hasn’t even hit screens yet but Universal Pictures has already lined up a release date for the third film. The studio has penciled in a June 11, 2021, release and has tapped Emily Carmichael to join Colin Trevorrow as co-writer of the next film.
The second film, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is coming out June 22, 2018, and the trailers released so far that film has consistently been heavily viewed and talked about on various social media platforms.
Carmichael was hired back in 2016 by Amblin to write and direct the family action-adventure Powerhouse. On deck for her next is a co-writing credit on Pacific Rim Uprising and she most recently rewrote The Black Hole for Disney. Colin Trevorrow had this to say about bringing her board:
“It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive. I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. Bayona has brought to Fallen Kingdom, and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.”
2015’s Jurassic World, which reignited the franchise, was a monster hit when it grossed $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office.
