One of the best musicals on Broadway, the Tony Award-winning Dear Evan Hansen is setting itself up as one of the most anticipated film adaptations of a Broadway musical of all time.
The recent casting additions continue to grow as the excitement as Academy Award winner Julianne Moore is joining Amy Adams to be the maternal figureheads in Dear Evan Hansen.
Moore joins Adams and Danny Pino, Ben Platt, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Colton Ryan, and Nik Dodani in the film. Stephen Chbosky (Wonder) is directing the feature which has a script by Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical. Music and lyrics are by Academy Award-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also worked on La La Land and The Greatest Showman.
Moore will play Platt’s mother, Heidi Hansen. In the stage version, the character kicks off the musical with a duet with the dead teen’s mother with the song Anybody Have a Map? Adams is playing the other mom.
As someone who had the opportunity to see this show on Broadway, the casting choices thus far have been top-notch and the film is certainly looking like a potential Oscar contender upon release.
