Armie Hammer’s bizarre loss could be Josh Duhamel’s gain. It has been announced that Duhamel is in talks to replace Hammer in Shotgun Wedding, a film that also stars Jennifer Lopez. Hammer stepped away from the film when alleged DMs & audio detailing rape and cannibalism fantasies emerged online.
Hammer and Lopez have been attached to the film since fall 2020 when the project was announced at the American Film Market. The two were headed for a shoot in the Dominican Republic when the social media controversy began to surface. Hammer’s only comment on the matter was this following statement:
“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that.”
A search began immediately for Hammer’s replacement and Lopez is said to have had a say in the process – with Duhamel’s name surfacing early on. Talks are still ongoing but it looks to be a done deal. Jason Moore, who directed Pitch Perfect, is helming Shotgun Wedding, which has a script by New Girl creator Liz Meriwether and Mark Hammer. It tells of a couple that gathers their families for a destination wedding even as they get cold feet. If that wasn’t enough, the entire party then gets taken, hostage.
