The Little Mermaid has found its Prince Eric. After an extensive search, Jonah Hauer-King has landed the male lead in the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic.
Hauer-King has been in the running for the role since September and tested along with Krypton actor Cameron Cuffe at London’s Pinewood Studios. At the end of the day, Hauer-King won the role in the Rob Marshall-directed film and this comes on the heels of Harry Styles backing away from talks for the part of Ariel’s love interest back in July.
The Little Mermaid cast includes Halle Bailey as Ariel, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder. Javier Bardem is still in talks to play King Triton but the deal hasn’t officially been closed as of yet. The film will feature beloved songs from the animated classic by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken (music) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (lyrics).
Jonah Hauer-King has credits that include The Song of Names which made its TIFF world premiere back in September, A Dog’s Way Home, Danny Huston’s The Last Photograph and the 2017 PBC miniseries Little Women.
