Jennifer Lopez To Star In & Produce The Netflix Action Film The Mother

Jennifer Lopez is reteaming with Netflix on the action film, The Mother. Lopez will star in and produce the film while live-action Mulan director, Niki Caro, is in talks to helm the picture.

In The Mother, Lopez will play a deadly female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before while on the run from very dangerous men. Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green wrote the original screenplay while Straight Outta Compton’s Andrea Berloff did revisions. The script is said to have the same vibe as Luc Besson’s classic film, The Professional.

This marks the second project that Lopez is attached to with Netflix. She will also be starring in and producing the adaptation of Isabella Maldonado’s novel The Cipher. In that film, Lopez will be an FBI agent named Nina Guerrera, who is pulled into a serial killer’s case after he leaves complex codes and riddles online, which are linked to his recent murders. This continues the streamer’s goal to get A-list talent on their platform as they continue to work with the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Chris Hemsworth, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson, to name a few.
