Jennifer Lopez To Receive Spotlight Award At Palm Springs International Film Festival For Her Role In Hustlers

Jennifer Lopez is having one hell of a year. Between a sold-out world tour, to being announced as the headliner of the Super Bowl Halftime Show, to receiving Oscar buzz for her role in Hustlers, Lopez is having a bit of a career resurgence. Fresh off her Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Hustlers, it has been announced that she’s set for another achievement.

Jennifer Lopez will receive the Spotlight Award from the 31st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival for her performance in Hustlers. The award will be presented to the actress at the festival’s annual gala which is set for Thursday, January 2. Festival Chairman Harold Matzner had this to say about her receiving the honor:

“Jennifer Lopez is a star in every sense of the word, and you will experience this in her latest film Hustlers. Starting with her show-stopping entrance Jennifer brings to life the character of Ramona, an exotic dancer, who leads a group of dancer friends to steal money from their clients. For this full-force yet grounded performance, deserving of awards consideration, we are thrilled to present Jennifer Lopez with this year’s Spotlight Award.”

Lopez joins this year’s previously announced honorees Joaquin Phoenix, Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron, and Renée Zellweger. Past recipients of the Spotlight Award include Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Helen Hunt, Allison Janney, Rooney Mara, and Julia Roberts. All recipients received Academy Award nominations in the year they were honored, with Janney receiving an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for I, Tonya.
