Jennifer Hudson Chosen By Aretha Franklin To Play Her In MGM’s Queen Of Soul Biopic

Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party is usually the hottest ticket before the award’s ceremony but this year it was also used to unveil some big casting news. Davis introduced Jennifer Hudson to sing a few songs at the event and then told the audience that Jennifer Hudson had been chosen by Aretha Franklin herself, to bring her life to the big screen.

Murmurs of the biopic have been floating around for quite some time with MGM acquiring the rights for and financing the film. Producing the film will be Straight Outta Compton‘s Scott Bernstein and music producer Harvey Mason Jr., who has worked with Franklin and also produced music for the film Dreamgirls, on which Hudson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Now that Hudson is locked in, the search for a director and screenwriter is being fast-tracked by the studio.
