Jake Gyllenhaal In Talks To Join Spider-Man Homecoming 2

Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to join Spider-Man Homecoming 2. This would be a big get for the film & it’s being reported that he’s being eyed for the villain role in the superhero sequel.

Who is that villain you might ask? It has been confirmed that the villain in question is Mysterio, one of Spider-Man’s most classic adversaries. There are also reports that Michael Keaton will return to reprise his role as The Vulture.

The Mysterio character joined the Spider-Man universe in the Marvel Comics series in 1964 and his a master of illusion and deception. This would be the first time he’ll appear in any of the live-action films but he was featured on the Spider-Man animated series in the 90s.

Interesting tidbit about Gyllenhaal and the Spider-Man universe. The actor almost played the title role in the 2002 film. A back injury that Tobey Maguire likely sustained while filming Seabiscuit nearly took him out of the running for the role due to timing issues. Maguire recovered from the injury in time but Gyllenhaal was waiting in the wings to take on the part.

Spider-Man Homecoming 2 hits screen on July 5, 2019
