It’s Official: Emmys Hit All-Time Low In Total Viewers

Earlier today we posted that early metered-market ratings that suggested that the 70th Primetime Emmys would be down from the previous year and now it’s official: Not only is the Emmys down year to year but it also hit an all-time low in total viewers.

Updated ratings for the live telecast have the ceremony hitting 10.17 million viewers which is down 11 percent from a year ago. Its demo rating was also down but only slightly to a 2.4 versus the 2.5 from last year but it still represents a new low for the award’s show.

The previous low for the Emmys was 11.3 million viewers on ABC back in 2016. The 2017 show on CBS improved on that number slightly with 11.38 million viewers. NBC last aired the ceremony in 2014 and this year’s show is down 35 percent in total viewers from that year while the 18-49 demo is down 43 percent.

On the bright side, if there is one, the Emmys’ metered-market were off less than those for the 2018 Grammys (-20 percent) and the Oscars (-16 percent).
