It Director Andy Muschietti In Talks To Direct The Flash Movie

The Flash movie adaptation is trying to get back on track. Andy Muschietti, the director behind the Stephen King adaptation It & the upcoming It: Chapter Two, is in talks to helm the project based on the DC Comics superhero.

John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein, who wrote drafts of the script, are no longer on board the project. The duo nearly had directing duties but the plans never came together. Staying on the project is its star, Ezra Miller, despite the studio not moving forward with the script he co-wrote with comics author Grant Morrison. Coming on board to write the film is Christina Hodson, the mind behind Bumblebee & the upcoming Birds of Prey. The goal is to have the film prepped by January 2020.

The exit of Goldstein & Daley is said to be voluntary although they have been with the project since 2018. There was a moment in time that the film was headed to a start date in late 2019 but there has been months of tension over creative differences which surfaced around what kind of direction was the best fit for a Flash movie. Ezra Miller favored a darker approach while Goldstein & Daley wanted the opposite. The two sides were making a compromise about the direction to take but Miller then took it upon himself to write his own script and submitted it to the studio in March. In May, the studio rejected Miller’s approach but felt he should still play the role.

No formal deals have been made with Muschietti but it looks like official deals will be going out shortly. If it goes through Muschietti would be the latest horror director to take on the comic book world. James Wan, famous for Saw, Insidious & The Conjuring took on Aquaman while David Sandberg, who helmed Annabelle: Creation & Lights Out made DC’s Shazam. Jaume Collet-Serra is attached to direct Black Adam after helming House of Wax & Orphan.
