Insatiable Renewed For Season 2 At Netflix

Despite negative reviews & controversy, Netflix has decided to renew Insatiable for a second season.

Created by Lauren Gussis and based in part on her experience, the hourlong series was originally developed for The CW but picked up to series at Netflix after narrowly missing the mark at the younger-skewing broadcast network. The series revolves around an overweight teenager (Debby Ryan) who seeks revenge on those that tormented her after she loses the weight.

The series received immediate backlash after its first trailer was released. A Change.org petition with hundreds of thousands of signatures began circulating after many took issue with the show for perpetuating the “toxicity of diet culture,” and the “objectification of women’s bodies.” Reviews of the series have skewered it as “poorly done and misguided.” The series has a staggeringly bad 11% score among critics on Rotten Tomatoes but a favorable 83% audience score.

Pretty surprised this got renewed considering the negative reception but honestly, any press is good press I guess.
