If Beale Street Could Talk (First Trailer)

Two years ago, Barry Jenkin’s Moonlight shocked the cinephile world as it took home Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Two years later, Jenkins is back with his latest film, If Beale Street Could Talk, and by the looks of the first trailer, Jenkins may be heading back to the Oscars.

In If Beale Street Could Talk, Tish and Fonny, a couple living in New York are ripped apart by a false rape accusation. The project is adapted from James Baldwin’s 1974 novel and Jenkins revealed the footage on what would have been the author’s 94th birthday.

The film stars Kiki Layne and Stephen James star in the lead roles with Regina King , Bryan Tyree Henry and Tayonnah Parris also appearing.

If Beale Street Could Talk hits theaters this Fall.
