2021 is only a few days old and Hollywood is already looking to make a shift in their release dates. In December, Warner Bros. shifted its entire release slate to a day and date release on HBO Max and in theaters. It looks as though, it may be the smart move with the latest shift in dates.
Along with Morbius, Variety has reported that Sony’s Cinderella and 20th Century’s The King’s Man are unlikely to keep their theatrical release dates, at least without embracing some kind of hybrid digital or video-on-demand debut.
Adding to the slew of changes if conditions don’t improve over the next month, Disney and Marvel’s Black Widow, Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Godzilla vs Kong, Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy, Disney’s Cruella with Emma Stone, and No Time to Die and Universal’s F9 may be set to move release dates which are sure to cause a shift for almost the entire film calendar as these films are huge releases.
Time will tell on what moves or not, however, I hope they can decide on a hybrid model to finally release these films.
