The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy is standing in solidarity with James Gunn, who was fired ten days ago by Disney from directing the third film after a series of offensive tweets from 2008 and 2011 came to light.
Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, Vin Diesel, and Pom Klementieff have all signed an open letter in support of the director. The letter appears on their various social media accounts and shows that they stand by him and the man he is today, despite past mistakes. There has been a groundswell of support from many in the industry who think Disney reacted too hastily in firing him. In today’s climate, when comments from your past can destroy, the support of Gunn has sort of changed the tide on being too quick to hurl judgment. Here is what Chris Pratt wrote as the caption for his post of the open letter on his Instagram page:
“Although I don’t support James Gunn’s inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man. I’d personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3. If you please, read the following statement- signed by our entire cast.”
