Grand Hotel is closing up shop after only one season. ABC has decided not to renew the series from executive producer Eva Longoria.
ABC’s President of Entertainment Karey Burke hinted at the fate of the series at this year’s TCA’s. ABC wasn’t happy with the soft live ratings but said they wouldn’t make a decision on the series until after its summer run ended. To its credit, Grand Hotel did see gains for its season (now series) finale but it wasn’t enough to sustain a renewal.
Grand Hotel actually had some critical heat behind it with some critics calling it a guilty pleasure that was perfect for the summer TV landscape. The show was originally picked up for midseason but ended up getting a summer run since the network thought it would be a better fit for the summer.
Grand Hotel, which was written by Brian Tanen based on a Spanish format, was set against the backdrop of a Miami Beach hotel, centering on the family who owns the business, the staff who run it and the explosive secrets they hide under the perfect exterior. The series starred Demian Bichir, Roselyn Sanchez, Denyse Tontz, Bryan Craig, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Lincoln Younes, Shalim Ortiz, Anne Winters, Chris Warren, Feliz Ramirez, and Justina Adorno.
