GoFundMe Campaign Launches to Help Young Girls See Captain Marvel

After tickets for the upcoming Captain Marvel were released, a new GoFundMe campaign was launched which follows in the footsteps of  a prior campaign that raised more than $50,000 to help children see Black Panther in theaters, GoFundMe announced on Tuesday that it was launching a similar effort to send young girls to Marvel’s first female-led film, Captain Marvel.

The #CaptainMarvelChallenge is a joint effort between GoFundMe and Girls Inc. of Greater Los Angeles, who is looking to raise funds for the children’s tickets, tickets for chaperones and refreshments for attending young girls. The campaign’s goal is $10,000 and any extra funds will go to funding programs for Girls Inc. of Greater Los Angeles as well as We Have Stories.

All receipts from the tickets, refreshments and organization donations will be sent to campaign donors at the end of the campaign. Brie Larson retweeted a We Have Stories tweet about the campaign on Tuesday.

“Captain Marvel is Marvel Studios’ first female-led film and an important moment for representation. The lead character, Carol Danvers, is not only a superhero, she’s also an athlete and fighter pilot,” Joseph said in a statement. “She is a prime example of the fact that women can do anything, and there isn’t a better person to be playing her than Brie Larson, who has been one of the faces of numerous feminist movements such as Time’s Up. I am inspired by Brie and women around the globe and look forward to sending as many girls as possible to see this film.”

As of Tuesday morning, the campaign had raised over $2,700 toward its goal. Captain Marvel release March 8th, 2019.
