Glen Powell Set To Join Tom Cruise In Top Gun: Maverick

After losing out on the role of Goose’s son to Miles Teller in Top Gun: Maverick, it looks like Glen Powell is headed to the danger zone after all. The actor has been cast in the Top Gun sequel.

Details on who Powell will be playing are being kept under wraps but many on social media say he reminds them of a young Val Kilmer, who will also be reprising his role from the original film. Perhaps a family connection?

In June, young Hollywood actors were champing at the bit to play the son of Goose, Maverick’s wingman who dies in a tragic accident in the original movie. The testing process, which involved flying to Cruise’s home in Clearwater, Florida, saw the finalists come down to Powell and Teller, with Teller ultimately winning.

Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and execs at Paramount and Skydance were so impressed with Powell that they tried to find another part for the actor. In fact, the movie’s makers are so intent on having Powell that they are beefing up the role for him. That’s saying a lot about how much he won them over.

Powell played astronaut John Glenn in Hidden Figures and appeared in Scream Queens. He was also recently in Netflix’s well-received romantic comedy, Set It Up.
