Den Of Thieves Gets Sequel With Major Players Returning

I think when Den of Thieves was released back in January it looked like a film that was going to be D.O.A. but it managed to surprise and put up decent numbers for the modestly budgeted heist flick. Now it looks like that success is being rewarded because Den of Thieves is getting a sequel and many of the key players are set to return.

Gerard Butler, Tucker Tooley, Mark Canton, Alan Siegel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and director Christian Gudegast have agreed to return for the sequel while O’Shea Jackson, Jr. is in negotiations to return.

The sequel will find Big Nick (Butler) on the hunt in the streets of Europe closing in on Donnie (Jackson Jr.) who is embroiled in the dangerous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s biggest diamond exchange.

The journey to bring Den of Thieves to the big screen has been 15 years in the making and the long wait really paid off. The film over-performed at the box office back in January and has grossed $57 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. It also has 34 more foreign markets to open in so there is more money to be made. The film wasn’t huge with critics (40% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes) but it definitely fared better with audiences so a sequel really isn’t a surprise.
