The Oscar season is in full effect and Oscar hopefuls have begun to screen for Academy members. Last week, it was revealed that A Star is Born’s Academy screening went over extremely well. News has broken that one of the other front-runners at the upcoming Academy Awards had its first Academy screening and it went over quite well. First Man received enthusiastic reception during its screening.
First reported by The Hollywood Reporter, First Man, similarly to A Star is Born, received comparably unusual turnout and noteworthy response.
The Academy told The Hollywood Reporter that even more members and their guests were turned away from this screening of Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong bio-pic than were turned away from A Star Is Born. At the film’s conclusion, the film was met with applause, both when the end credits began to roll and when Chazelle, stars Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, writer Josh Singer, and composer Justin Hurwitz were all introduced for a post-screening Q&A.
While the film failed to hit with cinephiles at the box office, the film’s Oscar chances do not look to be taking a hit from it.
