The second trailer for Damien Chazelle’s, First Man, has been released and it looks like the young director is ready to make another run at Oscar gold.
The film reunites him with his La La Land leading man, Ryan Gosling and it is a biopic about Neil Armstrong. Though most viewers are probably aware of Armstrong’s story, First Man is noteworthy for portraying the very real dangers of the Apollo 11 mission. At the time, NASA had never attempted to send someone to the moon, and it proved to be a very rigorous ordeal that tested the mettle of those involved.
With both Whiplash and La La Land earning widespread acclaim (including Best Picture nominations for both), Chazelle has set a very high bar for himself early in his career but if the reaction from the Venice Film Festival is any indication, this is going to be one to beat come awards season. The 12 reviews counted from the film festival on Rotten Tomatoes has it sitting with a 92% fresh rating.
