Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw Rides To $5.8 Million In Thursday Night Previews

The Fast franchise officially expanded last night with the release of the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and it’s cruising to a solid start in Thursday night previews.

Hobbs & Shaw grossed $5.8 million in Thursday night previews beginning at 7 PM. This is the best preview night performance for Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham outside of the Fast franchise topping San Andreas’ $3.1 million and The Meg‘s $4 million.

In my predictions, I said the best comparison for Hobbs & Shaw was the Mission: Impossible franchise and it looks like it’s not that far off from the last film in that spy brand heading into the weekend. Last night’s earnings are $200,000 shy of what Mission: Impossible – Fallout earned about a year ago with $6 million in previews. That movie turned out to be the best opening in the Tom Cruise franchise with a $61.2 million opening. Hobbs & Shaw is likely heading in that direction if word of mouth holds.
