Fast & Furious 9 (Official Trailer)

The first trailer for Fast & Furious 9 has just arrived & it features no blood relations, the girls getting to kick ass with the boys, & the return of a fan favorite.

The new trailer shows Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) living on a farm and raising Toretto’s son Brian, named after the character played by the late Paul Walker. “Now that I’m a father, I can’t live my life a quarter-mile at a time anymore,” Toretto says. But what seems to be a quaint family situation turns ominous, as Letty gifts Brian with a necklace and says “it’s for protection — from what’s coming.”

What’s coming appears to be John Cena as Jacob, who is also revealed to be Dom’s brother. Charlize Theron’s Cipher, who was introduced in the previous film, returns & appears to be egging on a deadly reunion.

Also of note, at the end of the trailer, is the return of Han (Sung Kang) who died in the third film Tokyo Drift (although his appearances in 4-6 were explained by Tokyo Drift taking place later in the Fast timeline). How does he come back? Who cares! #JusticeForHan.

The trailer debuted during “The Road to F9” concert in Maurice A. Ferré Park in Miami. The event was streamed live to fans on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Hosted by The Fast and the Furious regular Tyrese Gibson and Maria Menounos, the concert featured performances by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth and returning star Ludacris. Cardi B and Ozuna, both joining the series in F9, also performed during the concert.

The girls also appear to be getting their wish to kick more ass and get more to do as Mia (Jordana Brewster) returns as Dom’s sister & it looks like her and Letty get to hold their own with much help from the guys. Are they setting up that all-female spinoff they’ve been discussing? Could be…

This all looks like a lot of fun & while they’ve become superheroes with cars, the Fast Saga still represents some of the best forms of escapism entertainment.

Fast & Furious 9 hits screens on May 22
