The new Scream film has secured another original star. It has been officially announced that Courteney Cox will be reprising her role as Gale Weathers in the latest installment.
Cox joins previously announced Scream castmember David Arquette who is also coming back as Dewey Riley. Cameras will roll on the Spyglass Media Group-Paramount Production in Wilmington, North Carolina. Both Cox and Arquette have appeared in the previous four Scream films. The filmmakers behind the latest film had this to say about her return:
“We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!”
All that needs to be done is to officially get Neve Campbell on board as Sydney Prescott. The actress, who has been in all four prior Scream films as well, has spoken with the new filmmakers about returning & is very interested but a deal has yet to be struck. Let’s make this happen people! The next Scream is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, are executive producing with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak serving as producers.
