Coming Soon: Nashville Season Five

Nashville is back! After ABC pulled the plug on the fan favorite, CMT stepped in to save the show and now we have a look at what’s to come for season five.

CMT announced today that it will sneak the first hour of the two-hour season five premiere on Dec. 15 at 9 p.m and they unveiled the first season five trailer. The new footage, which also catches fans up with where things left off at the end of season four, most notably with Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) on her private plane as alarms sound off in the background and the turbulence hits high.

Those aren’t only the bumps in the road ahead. The Nashville trailer also teases some marital problems for (relative) newlyweds Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten) when Rayna decides she wants to write their life story.

The official season five description released today points to some interesting plot developments as well: “The season begins with Rayna and Deacon facing a new normal with Maddie now back home and Highway 65 struggling financially. The shocking news about Juliette creates a wave of emotions throughout Nashville and sets Rayna off on a journey of discovery.”

The hour-long special preview will be the first new episode of the country music drama to air on CMT since they partnered with Hulu to bring the series back from cancellation last June. (ABC unexpectedly canceled Nashville after four seasons the month prior.) As part of the deal, the first of the two-hour premiere will be available for streaming the next day on Hulu.

Nashville‘s full two-hour season premiere airs Thursday, Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. on CMT.
