Clueless Remake In Early Development At Paramount Pictures

Not sure how I feel about this news but Paramount Pictures is in early development on a remake of the 90s classic, Clueless. Paramount Studios is hiring Marquita Robinson, a writer and story editor on Netflix’s GLOW, to pen the script for an update to be produced by Tracy Oliver who also wrote Girls Trip.

Amy Heckerling wrote and directed Clueless, which was a modern take on “Emma”, the Jane Austen novel about a young woman who decides to play matchmaker. Alicia Silverstone played Cher, the socially hip teen who plays matchmaker and tries to give a makeover to the new girl, played by Brittany Murphy. Paul Rudd played her step-brother for whom she falls, while Stacey Dash was her best friend.

Clueless was a surprise hit back in 1995 and it could be argued it began the resurgence of teen films in the late 90s. It was followed by a TV spinoff that lasted 3 seasons.
