Claire Foy Exiting The Crown After Season 2

Though The Crown has yet to air its second season, Claire Foy, who plays Queen Elizabeth currently, will be exiting soon after. Foy confirmed to People that she and co-star Matt Smith will not return for season 3 due to their roles being recast to aid a large time-jump in the plot. She explained,
“That it’s not a shock – we always knew when we signed up to it. And also not to be funny but it’s also a real plus. I’m sure to some people it sounds amazing but to us it’s like, seven years of playing the same person? And this is a tough job, you know? It’s long, a good nine-monther. And that’s a lot of your life that you sign over to it. I’m going to miss it terribly. But I just can’t wait to see where it goes, I just can’t wait.”
Season two is set to take place over ten years and explore Prince Philip’s alleged affair, along with a new role played by actor Matthew Goode. While the date hasn’t been confirmed for the premiere of its second season, we do expect it to be in November.
