Tom Hardy is notorious gangster Al Capone in the debut trailer for Capone, which will be available via VOD on May 12.
Referring to the film as “my cut”, director Josh Trank (Chronicle) took to social media to announce that the movie is heading for a May 12 release, which will see Vertical Entertainment team with Redbox Entertainment on a 48-hour VOD rental; plans are being put in place for a summer theatrical run once cinemas reopen. The “my cut” comment is a nod to his dissatisfaction with the final edit of his 2015 superhero film Fantastic Four, which was plagued by creative differences and flopped at the box office. I honestly thought that film just about ended his career but here he is working with Tom Hardy which gives me a little more street cred back into the directing game. I personally really liked Chronicle so it’s not my wish to completely give up on him either.
In the film, Hardy depicts crime lord Al Capone later in life, after he was released from prison following his tax evasion sentence and with his health on the decline. Hardy, judging from the trailer, looks like he escapes into the role so this may be worth watching if only for him.
Capone hits VOD on May 12.
