Candyman Lands New 2021 Release Date

Candyman was shifted off the 2020 calendar to a still to be determined date in 2021 a few weeks ago but now we have the new official release date! The new Candyman will hit screens in August 2021.

The new date to be exact is August 27, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was forced to move off its previous June 2020 release date like so many other films and originally shifted to October 2020 but it became clear that release date wouldn’t be feasible either so it was moved to next year. Hopefully, things will be back to normal once the film finally hits screens. Nia DaCosta directs this fresh take on the horror classic which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Teyonah Parris.

The original film follows a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, who is accidentally summoned to reality when people say his name five times in the mirror. The new film is being billed as a spiritual sequel to the 1992 original but is set in a now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where the legend began. Jordan Peele, DaCosta & Win Rosenfeld wrote this new take on the horror classic. Tony Todd, the original Candyman, is also expected to play a role in the new film.
