NBC isn’t getting rid of Brooklyn Nine-Nine anytime soon. The network has renewed the long-running fan favorite for an eighth season, well ahead of its season seven premiere scheduled for February 2020.
The renewal will make it a three-season run for the comedy series at NBC. Brooklyn Nine-Nine began its life on Fox but it was canceled by that network at the end of the 2017-18 season after five seasons. NBC, which originally wanted the series when it began because it’s owned by their sister studio, Universal TV, came in and saved the series after that cancellation and it has thrived there ever since.
The good thing about the pickup for NBC is that it adds some stability to their comedy lineup. Critically acclaimed fan-favorite, The Good Place, is wrapping up this season and the Will & Grace revival will also go dark after this season. Having a show like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, along with Superstore, allows NBC to still have two comedy series to build a future comedy lineup around.
For the 2018-19 season, Brooklyn Nine-Nine averaged a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.2 million viewers after seven days of delayed viewing. It was one of NBC’s strongest series on digital platforms, rising to a 3.1 in adults 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers over 35 days of multi-platform viewing. More than half (59 percent) of its total 18-49 rating came via digital platforms, the highest percentage for any NBC series last season.
Created by Mike Schur & Dan Goor, Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker & Joel McKinnon Miller.
Season seven of Brooklyn Nine-Nine premieres on February 6, 2020.
