Black Widow Release Postponed by Disney

According to Variety, Disney has postponed the release of Black Widow indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic. The film was set to be a prequel, telling the story of what happened to Natasha Romanoff between the end of Captain America: Civil War and the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War.

It was slated to hit theaters on May 1. The studio also pulled The Personal History of David Copperfield from its Searchlight banner, and The Woman in the Window a 20th Century title, as well. It’s unclear when any of the films will be released as no new date has been announced.

Disney had been holding off on postponing Black Widow but it seems it they had no choice especially with recent announcements that Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres would be closing all U.S. theaters. Additionally, the number of theater closures overseas would not let the film do well at the international box office either.
