Birds Of Prey Enters Box Office Tracking With Potential $55 Million Opening

The ladies of Birds of Prey are looking to dominate the first weekend of the February box office if this morning’s early tracking is any indication.

The Margot Robbie led DC comic book adaptation is eyeing an opening between $49-55 million with the higher end of that prediction looking like the most likely outcome. Birds of Prey is the only wide release on February 7 and it’s actually the only franchise film set to be released that month as well which could give it a lot of room to breathe in terms of direct competition.

The film is apparently tracking highest with the under 25 demographic and the awareness on that end is only getting hotter as the film gets closer to its release date. Despite the cast that is dominated by female leads, it’s tracking highest with males under 25 & it’s followed by females under 25. In terms of unaided awareness, which follows groups who aren’t being bombarded by surveys and trailers, the film is tracking the highest with females in that area.

Warner Bros. kept costs on Bird of Prey relatively low at $97.1 million so the film has huge potential to break out and not be hampered by being over budget. Suicide Squad, from which this film is spun off from, opened to $133.6 million back in 2016 but no one is expecting Bird of Prey to reach those lofty goals. An opening in the $50 million range is solid and pretty much echoes what Shazam!, another DC adaptation, did in 2019 when it opened to $53.5 million.
