Batwoman Pilot Officially Ordered At The CW

Ruby Rose is one step closer to continuing her time at The CW. The network has officially ordered the pilot for Batwoman & David Nutter is on deck to direct.

The news comes mere weeks after Rose made her debut as the character during the “Elseworlds” crossover. The drama, first put in development in July, was wildly expected to be picked up to pilot and remains a front-runner for a series order given how well she was received during the crossover & its connection to the DC brand. Its parent show, Arrow, is also in its seventh season & is beginning to show its age so new blood on the DCTV lineup seems like the most logical direction.

David Nutter, the Emmy-winning Game of Thrones helmer, is set to direct the pilot. Nutter is also no stranger to the DC series’ on The CW having directed the pilots for Arrow & The Flash. For executive producer Greg Berlanti the potential series breaks yet another barrier as Batwoman becomes the first-ever superhero series to be led by a lesbian character — and played by an openly gay actress in Rose. Greg Berlanti is also looking to add to his historic haul of 14 scripted series on broadcast and streaming. The series’ he currently has on air are All American, Arrow, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Riverdale, Supergirl; NBC’s Blindspot, CBS’ God Friended Me, The Red Line; Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Lifetime transplant You; DC Universe’s Titans and Doom Patrol.

If Batwoman makes it to series, it will follow Kate Kane (Rose), who soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
