Avengers: Infinity War Scores Massive $39 Million In Thursday Night Previews

The war began last night in Thursday night previews and Avengers: Infinity War achieved heroic numbers to begin the weekend.

The film scored a superhero-best $39 million in Thursday night previews. This is the best showing of any superhero film history and the fourth-best preview gross of all-time.  Breaking down the superhero comparisons, The Dark Knight was the previous record holder with $30.6 million and that was followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with $27.7 million. A more recent comparison is another Marvel effort, Black Panther, which grossed $25.2 million in previews.

Infinity War’s Thursday night launch basically confirms it is going to be a huge box office player this weekend. The film is tracking for at least a $225 million launch but many industry experts are thinking it will go a bit higher. Is the Force Awakens opening record of $247 million still attainable? Many media outlets still believe it is due to Marvel’s appeal to families which could propel it further over the weekend. Of course, word of mouth will also be a factor which could make it surge or decline if it’s slightly negative.

Stay tuned for the Friday numbers which will be posted as soon we get them tomorrow!
