Austin Butler Lands Role Of Elvis Presley In New Drama From Baz Luhrmann

Baz Luhrmann has found his Elvis. It has been announced that Austin Butler has landed the role of Elvis Presley in Luhrmann’s new untitled drama.

The film will cover the legends’ growth from dirt poor singer to the global icon that he became. The film will be seen through the complex relationship he had with his manager of two decades, Colonel Tom Parker. The role of the manager is being played by Tom Hanks.

Filming on the project will take place early next year in Queensland, Australia. Warner Bros. will also distribute the film worldwide. As for the role of Elvis, it was sought after by a lot of young talent. Butler ultimately was Luhrmann’s choice but he filmed an audition for the role along with Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller & Harry Styles. The choice wasn’t an easy one with reports saying all involved gave great auditions but Butler was chosen because of to go along with talent, he’s poised for a huge jump up. He’ll be seen later this month in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.
