A new trailer, although it’s definitely more of a teaser, has been released for the horror film Antebellum and it definitely offers up more questions than answers…and I like it!
Written and directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz in their feature-directing debut, Antebellum, from what I can gather, seems to have Janelle Monáe playing a TED Talk-type thought leader who is somehow taken back in time and sold into slavery in the antebellum South. “What if fate chose you to save us from our past?” seems to be the running them here but at 43 seconds we are left guessing as to what it all really means.
The marketing makes sense when you realize that Antebellum shares a producer, Sean McKittrick, who worked on both of Jordan Peele‘s modern-day horror hits Get Out and Us, as well as Spike Lee‘s BlackKklansman. The marketing is reminiscent of both of those projects and the intrigued this film is creating could lead to solid box office. The film also stars Marque Richardson II, Eric Lang, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone.
Antebellum hits screens on April 24.
